Fans of guitar-driven, blues-based classic rock will want to keep their ears open for Big Pacific.
Big Pacific wears its influences proudly; listeners will be reminded of a gamut of 70s music, from Cream to Little Feat and even Huey Lewis and the News, all wrapped in the tight professionalism of musicians who have entertained audiences across Canada and around the globe.
Roly Sandoval, guitar & vocals: Is a veteran of Western Canada’s professional music scene. Starting off in Calgary in the 80s he went on to work in some of Alberta’s premier rock bands. He’s also done extensive studio work, appeared on radio and TV, and has played great rock and roll from the Arctic Circle to Mexico.
Wayne Veillet, bass & Vocals: Wayne is Big Pacific’s only true Nanaimo connection. After finding the call of the bass guitar, he honed his skills here before branching off to the mainland and Alberta and he’s been rocking ever since. Wayne brings talent, dedication and technical expertise. Having been with a popular local band, for 16 years and establishing his ‘Wayon Sound’ recording studio. Wayne is the real deal and a welcome addition to Big Pacific.
Nick Dokter, drums & vocals: Started his music career in South Africa at the tender age of 14, quickly becoming a sought-after session player. He continued his studio work in London at the PYE Studio where he rubbed shoulders with Ronnie Wood, Arthur Brown, and Van Morrison. Nick carried on his session work upon arrival in Canada, working with the Juno-nominated Richard Stepp Band, Oliver and the Elements and Jimmy D lane son of late Muddy Waters guitar man Jimmy Rogers.
John Hannah, keyboards: John Hannah aka Johnny Blitz is a multi-talented musician featured on keyboards, guitar and vocals. John has done extensive studio and TV work. He has performed on a litany of fabulous music shows including (but not limited to) Live Aid, David Letterman, The Princess Diana Trust Concert, Solid Gold, American Bandstand and Tina Turner’s performance on the Juno’s back in the day! Even more impressive is John’s 2.5 years in Heart’s touring band and 8 years touring with Bryan Adams! Needless to say, John is a musician’s musician and Big Pacific is proud and thrilled to have him join the band.
Since the age of 16 Guitarist, Recording artist, Singer, Songwriter Whitey Somers has been performing internationally, sharing the stage with many talented musicians, such as Rick Fines, Stephen Fearing, Jeff Healy, J.P. Cormier, Kim Mitchell and The Bare Naked Ladies to name a few. New to Vancouver Island, Whitey currently performs solo acoustic shows and performs with”Alexander’s Bluestime Band”, “The Jessica Benini Collective”, “Blue Cadillac”, and “Whitey Somers Band”. As a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Whitey is in great demand as a side man and session player. “I grew up in a house full of musical influences. There was always something on the turntable or someone visiting with a guitar”. As a nephew of Canadian composer Harry Somers, Whitey Somers found an early love of music, a pool he most happily dove into. “Music of one sort or another” would be a good way to describe my feel. No one style binds me, I let the music find me.” From country to celtic, folk & blues or hard rock, Whitey’s songs reflect the world at large. Some of the projects Whitey has been involved in include “Sleight Of Hand” with Dave Bingham of Ugly Ducklings fame, “The Elders Of Zion”, Celtic Rock units “Empty Flask” and “Strange Potatoes”, 11 piece Alt. Country Group “The Barn Owls” with Craig Smith, Chuck Baker, Romney Getty etc., Reggae Band “Fire Temple” and “Whitey Somers Band” Whitey’s new CD “Happy Guy” was produced by Craig Smith & Whitey Somers.
Renovation Blues Band
11 years in… the experiment was a success! Renovation Blues Bandwas formed in late 2006 and got busy in 2007 to deliver authentic and exciting music to audiences eager to dance or just soak up some tasty tunes. We’re still here and having more fun than ever, and hopefully you’re still with us and along for the ride.

Brian Whitty & Blue Dog Ramble
Brian Whitty made the move from Toronto to the west coast a few years ago. He is a veteran of the Blues and R&B scene there. Bringing the Bottom Line to Johnny Mays Bleecker Street, much of the blues scene of Grossman’s and doing 3 albums with The Cry on RCA records. Since coming toNanaimo and diving into the blues community of The Sunday Blues Jam at the Queen’s he’s come up with the band “Blue Dog Ramble” and a CD “Get off that couch”.
